STOIntelligence

Founding contributors

Twenty operators. One benchmark built on the record.

Every turnaround benchmark in this industry starts with somebody at a site filling in a form. STO Intelligence starts with the records the job left behind. I am looking for twenty operators to help build it.

The problem

Question after question on a benchmark submission gets answered differently at every site.

Three of them, out of dozens:

01

What does the turnaround pay for?

The site power you drew while the unit was down. The nitrogen and gases to start it back up. All of operations’ time, or only their overtime, or none of it.

02

Which crafts are direct, and which are indirect?

Move scaffolding, insulation or the fire watch from one column to the other and labor productivity changes without a single hour changing.

03

When did the turnaround start and stop?

Clock running at the rate cut, or when the unit hit zero. Stopped at first production, or back at full rates and on spec.

Every study publishes definitions. The definitions still get applied by a person, working from what their systems can produce, under pressure to look competitive. Reviewing that form for errors catches none of it, because what actually happened never made it into the form.

What ground truth is

The records a turnaround leaves behind whether anyone is watching or not.

Nobody fills them out. Nobody decides which bucket they go in.

Baseline schedule

As-built schedule

Tag-level equipment or work list

What got opened, and what was done to it

Gate logs

Every craft, every badge-in, every hour

What it makes possible

01

Scope growth measured against the plan rather than reported.

02

Productivity the schedule assumed against what the crews delivered.

03

Cost rebuilt from real hours and real contract rates, on the same basis for every event in the set.

04Emerging

Predictive models are an emerging capability, and they only get to exist because the data underneath them is real.

What you give

Your company’s most recent completed turnaround of each type you run, across your sites, as they are. Baseline and as-built schedules, the equipment or work list, gate logs, and the closeout record. No cleanup, no forms to fill in.

What you get

  • Ten percent off STO Intelligence services through the company’s first five years
  • First access to the benchmarks and predictive models as they come online, inside your own deliverables
  • Priority scheduling for the work that needs our team: assurance reviews, schedule analysis, benchmarking
  • Founding contributor standing in the dataset you helped build

Who this is for

  • Refineries
  • Chemicals and olefins
  • Ammonia, methanol and fertilizer
  • Gas processing and LNG
  • Upstream and midstream
  • Power

If your plant shuts down to get worked on, this is for you.

Your data

Everything you contribute is treated as confidential. We use it as you provide it, so we can normalize your events and show you where you stand, and we never sell it, never share it with third parties, and never expose your data to another contributor in any form that can be traced back to you. What others see is aggregated. It is used only to build the benchmark and can be deleted on request. Founding contributor terms are agreed in writing before anything changes hands.

Aggregates are published only where enough companies sit behind them that no single contributor can be identified.

Which sectors?

Interest only at this stage. We agree the founding-contributor terms in writing before any data changes hands.
